Back to School Safety Tips

School is now back in session so take a little time to review some of these safety tips that may help to keep you and your family a little safer:

-Plan ahead and give yourself and your family a little more time to get ready in the morning and to travel to school and work.  This helps to make it safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
-If your child will be taking a bus to school, find out exactly where they will be picked up and dropped off.  Plan the safest route there and take a practice walk so you can point out places they can go for help when you are not available.
-If your child is walking to school, try to find a walking buddy.  Also walk the route with your child and show them the safest route with the least amount of streets to cross.
-Be sure your child obeys all traffic rules, stays away from bushes, alleys, strangers, and follows your pre-planned route.
-If your child goes home alone be sure they check in with an adult as soon as they are home and have locked the doors.  Remind your child not to tell anyone they are home alone; not even their friends, without checking with you first.
